Our Ambassadors

We are proud to announce Darren Campbell MBE & Danielle Brown MBE as Ambassadors for Get Active Sports!

Darren Campbell

MBE

Darren  is one of Britain’s most successful and well known male sprinters. He represented Great Britain in the 100m and 200m, as well as the 4x100m relay.

Darren has over 21 medals to his name, including Olympic gold for the 4x100m relay in 2004, and Olympic silver for the 200m at the 2000 Sydney Games. He has also won Commonwealth and European gold medals. Darren’s personal best times for the 100m and 200m put him in the top six British sprinters of all time.

Darren was also a gifted footballer and spent two years playing professional football in the mid-90s when injury forced him to leave football for athletics. However, Darren’s commitment to athletics paid off as, just a year after his return to the sport, he was selected to represent Great Britain at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Two themes soon emerged in Darren’s career; success and injury. In 2001, he had to forfeit being captain of the GB European Cup team as a result of injury, and in 2004 Darren failed to reach any individual Olympic finals as a consequence of an unresolved hamstring injury.

Darren refused to let these setbacks halt his career and in 2005 he was awarded an MBE for his contribution to athletics. He continued to show great determination and focus as he fought back to full fitness to claim a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Since retiring in 2006, Darren Campbell has been working to help sports teams improve their sprinting skills including working with Premier League football teams and high profile rugby teams.

Danielle Brown

MBE

Danielle won gold in both the Beijing and London Paralympics and became a three times World Champion. Taking gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, she became the first disabled athlete to represent England in an able-bodied discipline and she holds all 12 Paralympic world records. Danielle achieved heights that others didn’t even realise were possible until she did it, setting the standards for others and proving that disability is no bar to achieving.

Success in any environment is characterised by having a winning mentality. Danielle’s experiences of competing at international level for seven years has given her a unique insight into exactly what it takes to thrive under pressure and employ that winning mindset to achieve results. Danielle is now teaching students the strategies that world class athletes use to achieve their potential.
